We got LTE in your LMR. No, we got LMR in your LTE. Whichever way you look at it, Icom’s IP730 series portable is a treat for radio users. Once again, Icom’s engineers looked at a problem and came up with an original solution. From their experience with IP501 LTE and Land Mobile Radio IDAS radios emerged a new radio able to receive and transmit both LTE and LMR (remember, IDAS is an NXDN and analog LMR radio) simultaneously! A perfect pairing of technology for those hungry to resolve ‘what if’ situations.
• ‘What if’ LTE is unavailable?
• ‘What if’ we need to communicate with a legacy system?
• ‘What if’ we need to interoperate LTE and Analog/NXDN?
The IP730D/IP740D portable radio is the answer. These radios are really two, two, two radios in one with an LTE radio and a Land Mobile Radio built into a single package. Two antennas, two PTT buttons, two channel/talk group selectors using one speaker and microphone. These radios are completely able to operate as either LTE or an IDAS/analog radio while able to use both technologies at once, as needed. A refreshing way to satisfy those ‘what ifs’.
Although I’m sure there is a lot going on inside the circuit and firmware design, for a radio user, the two button PTT simplifies use. In the programming software, or on the fly, either of the PTT buttons are set as primary – typically the most used technology. The primary PTT is the bigger button and can be given volume priority – meaning when both are received, primary is louder. Remembering to push the right button, or both buttons, is easy. But if you do forget, the display shows the icon of the primary at a glance.
So, now there’s a solution that lightens your load with one radio to handle the ‘what ifs’. Does your crew roam out of range of the LTE network? Do you want to talk to your on-site crew without broadcasting everywhere over LTE? Are there members of your crew without LTE capabilities that you want to talk to?
Choose the IP730D series to make those ‘what ifs’ into ‘no problems’.
